The 12 Days of Holiday Cleaning

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - even if your house isn't ready for the festivities to begin! If you feel like your home needs a major overhaul, but you don't have the time to get it done, then I've got the best advent calendar you never knew you really needed!! It is now only twelve days until Santa Clause will squeeze himself down your chimney, so lets make the house sparkle and shine just in time. With just twelve tasks, one for each day leading up to the 25th of December, you'll be able to clean your home from top to bottom in under 30 minutes a day!

Day 1 (13th)

Give your oven a spruce up, use your favourite cleaner or check out Pinterest for some easy and cheap DIY cleaner recipes.

Day 2 (14th)

Make your windows sparkle by spraying and wiping them down with a cleaner made of 1:1 vinegar and water for a streak free shine. For any stubborn spots lightly rub with a magic eraser.

Day 3 (15th)

Dust your light fixtures, you may have to hand wash some that have become super grimy. Whilst you're up there, take the time to change any blown light bulbs.

Day 4 (16th)

Work quick and dust as much of the house as you can. Work from top to bottom, left to right to ensure you don't have dust falling where you have already cleaned.

Day 5 (17th)

Clean your baseboards, and switches. I love using drier sheets, not only because they are great at picking up dust, but they will make your home smell lovely and fresh.

Day 6 (18th)

Declutter your living areas or any rooms that are swimming in unused or unnecessary belongings.

Day 7 (19th)

Launder your family's bedding and any that will be used for guests staying with you for the holidays. Don't forget to wash, or even just air out, any throw blankets from your lounge room.

Day 8 (20th)

Declutter your kitchen cabinets. Nobody wants guests rummaging through the cupboards only to find stale, past their use-by date foods. Write a list of anything you may need to replace from the grocery store.

Day 9 (21st)

You'll no doubt need some extra room in your fridge for all of the yummy food, so give it a good clean, wipe out all of the nooks and crannies, and throw away anything past its expiry.

Day 10 (22nd)

Give the rest of your kitchen some love by wiping out the microwave, descaling your kettle, dusting the tops of your cabinets and wiping down the cabinet doors and counters.

Day 11 (23rd)

Give your bathrooms are deep clean, scrub away any soap scum, disinfect your toilets (don't forget to wipe around the outside), put out some fresh towels and add a candle or diffuser for a subtle scent.

Day 12 (24th)

Vacuum and mop all of the floors in your home to remove any stray hairs, crumbs, dirt or dust.

Take it day by day, and you will be amazed at how clean and refreshed your home will look in just twelve days. And don't forget the most important task on day 13 - R E L A X!
